Krasl Art Center Class Trip

Art Appreciation students (Lake Michigan College) took a class trip to the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph to view the sculpture garden and the current exhibition by the American Society of Marine Artists.

Senior M. Granzow and Freshman E. Lawrence jointly won an art competition sponsored by Hungerford Nichols in St. Joseph, MI. The students created paintings inspired by the theme of “Connection.”

Students created watercolor paintings inspired by flowers and plants that hold a special or symbolic meaning to them.

Inspired by the American artist Bob Ross, students used acrylic paint to create landscape paintings using Ross’s wet-on-wet painting technique.

To practice working with acrylic paint, students created a gradient background by mixing paint directly on the paper. After the background dried, students added a silhouette using black paint.

For our first project of the 2020-2021 school year, students created perspective drawings. These valuable skills of creating depth and perspective will be used throughout the school year in our other projects.

With students working from home during the covid-19 pandemic - many without art supplies - art class has creatively shifted. For our first project, middle school students used themselves as models to embody famous works of art.
